The Purplestar is one of Valstar’s varieties, wich has been produced in-house. The dark green leaves have bright wavy edges. In the evening the plant closes its leaves as the light fades. Calatheas are named after the Greek word for basket. The flowers are arranged together resembling a basket. In contrast with most of the plants from the Calathea family, the Purplestar does flower. The yellow flowers grow at the bottom of the plant. The Purplestar is originally from Brazil, where it is part of the undergrowth.
We deliver this plant in the 12, 19 and 21 centimetre pot sizes. In a 21-cm pot the plant can grow to more than one metre in height.
- The Purplestar does not like being put in direct sunlight and is, therefore, suitable for shadowy areas
- The temperature must remain between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius (59 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit).
- This plant needs to be watered regularly but not abundantly
- Adding plant food in the water every fortnight is very beneficial to the colour of the leaves.
